It’s our 2nd Annual Academy Awards Film Fest, and we are heading into the final weekend. Make sure to mark your Academy Award Prediction Contest forms and turn them in by 6 p.m. Saturday night (Feb. 25) for a chance to win a pair of free movie tickets.
Friday night (Feb. 24 – tomorrow!) at 6 p.m. join us for a free screening of ”Upwards Moving of the Celestial Body of the Primates” (PG-13, 2 hours). This science fiction film stars James Franco, the Oscar-winning visual effects team that brought to life the worlds of Avatar and Lord of the Rings, and a whole bunch of darn dirty apes.
Nominated for “Best Visual Effects.” And honestly, the acting work done by Andy Serkis (who plays the ape “Caesar”) is outstanding. That man is underappreciated as an actor. Wow.
Then on Saturday we have a double feature. Starting at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 25) we will show “Cat in Heavy Shoes” (PG, 1 hour 30 minutes). Antonio Banderas voices the notorious fighter, lover and outlaw cat in this animated feature. The cat becomes a hero when he sets off on an adventure with the tough and street smart Kitty Softpaws and the mastermind Humpty Dumpty to save his town.
Nominated for “Best Animated Feature Film.”
Then at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 25), we will feature “Middle of the Night in the City of Light” (PG-13, 1 hour 34 minutes). Owen Wilson stars in this Woody Allen romantic comedy about a young man’s great love for a city, Paris, and the illusion people have that a life different from theirs would be much better.
Nominated for “Best Picture,” “Best Directing,” “Best Original Screenplay,” and “Best Art Direction” (Is it better art direction than Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2? You decide.)
